The role
The North East Land Management and Forest Operations team are responsibly for delivering a wide range of Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) benefits across approximately 12,000 ha of Land which includes Clocaenog Forest, Y Berwyn National Nature Reserve and recreation sites within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
An exciting opportunity has arisen within this busy and dynamic team for a job share of a Technical Support Land Management role.
As a member of this dynamic team, you will, amongst other duties, be expected to jointly organise the delivery of an agreed Land Management operations programme to a high standard across the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and National Nature Reserves (NNR)’s in North East Wales. You will jointly manage different aspects of the programme such as public safety, tree safety, fencing and roadside flailing.
You will be required to be based in the Clawdd Newydd Office and work out in the field at different sites and locations for a significant proportion of your contracted hours.
The role requires excellent interpersonal skills and for you to be a fluent Welsh speaker. You will be used to working outside in different weather conditions and have experience of supervising contractors and working with different customers and stakeholders.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

About us
The North East Land Management and Forestry Ops Teams is the only combined team of these disciplines within Wales. This job share is for a role which works predominantly delivering land management programmes of work such as public safety, tree safety, fencing and roadside vegetation management on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and NNRs in North East Wales.
Working from the Clawdd office, the role is mainly field based and working with landowners, stakeholders and members of the public.
What you will do
- Deliver team work plans, and delivery of agreed actions to contribute to business planning.
- Participate in NRW technical groups.
- Interact with peers in NRW to promote consistent industry best practice.
- Deliver delegated programmes within agreed budget, adhering to all relevant procurement procedures, health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.
- Experience of working across a wide range of land management disciplines.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of conservation management, designated sites, and all aspects of forest practise, including land liabilities, forest planning, forest operations, recreation asset management, including visitor centre management (where relevant).
- Knowledge of sustainable forest management, UKWAS and forest certification schemes.
Welsh language level requirements
- Essential: Level C2 - Higher proficiency level (fluent in both spoken and written Welsh)
